Thank you, Yankees!

*     *     *

Given that I love to run, and that I'm a mom of two boys, it isn't much of a stretch to think that I'd be living in a family of sports freaks. And I am. We're all sports freaks round here.

Which makes sense, considering how this family started.

At a Yankees game.

Huh?

Let me explain.

I met my husband, Owen, at a Yankees game, when we were both young, single and living in the Big Apple. It was just a random game that we both decided to go to with friends -- I went with my roommate and some other friends, and he went with some high school friends. Both groups were meeting up with a common friend.

So we all sat together and since we were all young and single, we all chatted.

And that was that. I had a party to go that night so I said good-bye to the group after the game and thought nothing more of it.

Except that my roommate happened to meet -- and hit it off with -- one of those high school friends from the game. They started dating. I hung out with them and ended up meeting Owen again.

And then, to make a long story short, we dated, he proposed, we got married. Thirteen years and two kids later, we're still here.

Thank you, Yankees!

Oh, and that roommate and the high school friend? Yeah, they got married too. And have two kids. They probably thank the Yankees as much as we do!

Honestly, though, we're not just Yankees fans. We're full-on sports fans. Hockey is probably Owen's #1, but I'm still partial to baseball (and anything in the Olympics).

And football? Sure thing. We're all Giants, all the time around here.

Right, Eli?

He knows what I'm talking about!

I made this custom calendar, thanks to SportsFreak365. It's pretty awesome and I'm pretty sure my two little guys are going to love it.

This one sure does:

In addition to customizing each month with a favorite NY Giants player, I even customized special dates, including this all-important one:

So, again: Thank you, Yankees!

Un-stinking with ShowerPill #stayfresh

During the week, I am the queen of fitting in my runs and workouts. I squeeze in runs that end just minutes before I need to get my older son off the bus, or that leave me just enough time to make dinner. And I'll squeeze in runs or workouts before I have to meet people or head out to run errands or whatever. I'm the queen of fitting it in.

This means, however, I don't always have time to shower after. And, as a big time exercise sweater, that's not a great thing. Because dried-on sweat = smelly body. Fortunately for me (and my friends and family!) I found ShowerPill. Because now I can un-stink!

Truth be told, I didn't just find the wipes -- I was invited to try them out for review and I was so excited to do so. I frequently rely on baby wipes to reduce my sweaty smelliness when I don't have time to shower after a run. And, really, there's only so clean you can get using a baby wipe. Those things are fine for babies but sweaty mamas? Well, they're passable but that's about it.

So, what about ShowerPill?

ShowerPill wipes are individually wrapped, designed to be tossed in a gym bag or stored in your car and used after a workout, when you don't have time to shower:

When my box of wipes arrived, I wanted to try them out immediately. I've given them a good test, using a wipe after a fast 5-mile tempo run; a crossfit workout that included 100 kettlebell swings, quarter mile repeats, and 100 squats; and a quick 3.25-mile easy run.

Each workout left me sweaty, for sure. Here I am showing my sweat after my 3.25-miler:

Yes, my friends. Those are beads of sweat on my forehead. And, yes, that's a drenched-with-sweat running top I'm wearing.

Suffice it to say, I was a sweaty mess after that run.

After using the ShowerPill wipes, I was CLEAN. And neither sweaty nor stinky! What a win.

What I like about the wipes:
  • They are individually wrapped, so it is easy to take them with you on-the-go. I could easily keep some wipes in the car, in my jogging stroller, in my diaper bag, and in my bathroom for home use.
  • They really work. The wipes are damp so they really clean. After I wiped down my body, it was slightly damp but dried quickly and was not sticky afterward. That's a problem I have using baby wipes -- the post wipe-down stickiness.
  • Again, they really work. After my crossfit workout, I had to meet some friends for my monthly freezer meal swap. I didn't have time to shower so I used the ShowerPill wipes and felt confident that I wouldn't gross-out my friends at lunch!
  • The wipes are fairly large (9" x 8") so one wipe will work to clean your whole body. The wipes come folded and the instructions recommend using one folded part of the wipe for each body part. Follow those instructions because they work!
Would I buy these with my own money? Yes. I can honestly say that I would. I live the kind of life where I can't always shower after a run so these would definitely come in handy for me.

And for you? Well, I recommend them. I think they'd make great stocking stuffers -- for you or for the other exercisers in your life!

Lucky you: ShowerPill is running a special on Amazon. You can get a FREE box of 10 ShowerPill wipes using code SPFRIDAY:

Between November 23rd and November 25th, just order 2 boxes of ShowerPill wipes from Amazon and you'll get 1 free! You must add 3 boxes to your shopping cart and enter the code SPFRIDAY to get the 3rd box for free. Don't forget!

You can learn more about ShowerPill on their web site HERE.

Review disclaimer: I received free ShowerPill wipes through FitFluential. I was not otherwise compensated and the opinions expressed are entirely my own.

Muller Yogurt review and giveaway.

We are a yogurt family. Seriously. The fridge always has tons of yogurt in it -- not much milk, but always yogurt!

But, oddly enough, I'd never tried Muller yogurt until I was invited to review it. Muller has three different kinds of yogurt: Corner, Greek Corner and FrutUp. Corner is regular yogurt with an attached, foldable corner filled with toppings that you mix in to the yogurt: Strawberries, blueberries, choco-balls, crunchy granola, crispy crunch or choco-flakes.

My kids loved this stuff! We tried the strawberry, choco-balls and crunchy granola. All three were a hit! It was fun for my guys to mix the toppings in with their yogurt.

We also really like the FrutUp. Actually, I think the kids liked these even better than Corner.

What the heck's a FrutUp? Good question. It's yogurt, covered with a thick layer of fruit mousse. And it is super good.

Seriously.

The fruit mousse is light and so fruity -- it reminded me of the gelatis at Rita's, an ice cream place we go to in New Jersey (I think they are a national chain). We tried the very cherry and the peach passion fruit frutups. They were full-on yum!

My only wish is that Muller yogurt was organic. I'm a HUGE believer in organic dairy so it would be nice if this fun, family-friendly yogurt was organic. Maybe someday!

Until then, I liked this yogurt a lot and would buy it for an occasional treat for my kids -- and, honestly, myself! To learn more about Muller yogurt, visit their web site HERE

Would you like to try Muller yogurt? Lucky you -- I have a giveaway!

The giveaway!

Progresso Light soups giveaway.

Fall. Perfect running weather. Perfect baking weather. Perfect soup weather.

And I love all three. Running, baking, soup. Generally, I like to make my own soup but I've also been known to take advantage of the convenience of canned soup now and then.

Recently, I tried out the new Progresso Light creamy soups. I was sent Light Creamy Potato with Bacon and Cheese, and Light Chicken Pot Pie Style.

My younger son and I enjoyed the soup for lunch on two particularly dreary days. Of the two, I liked the Light Creamy Potato with Bacon and Cheese better. It really was creamy and I'm just a potato-in-my-soup kind of girl. The Light Chicken Pot Pie Style was good, too, I just preferred the other.

I will note that I did add some extra frozen veggies to the soup, just because I like to try to get my kids to eat vegetables as much as possible. And, adding them to something that they are eating, like soup, is easy.

Are you a soup eater? Want to win some?

Then check out my giveaway!

One lucky winner will win a Progresso Light creamy soup gift pack, like the one pictured here:

Box Tops and a $25 Walmart gift card giveaway!

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard grumblings about school budgets. Locally, school budgets have been cut and cut -- and from what I've read, that's the case across the country.

So, schools and PTOs are doing all they can to supplement those budgets. Sure, some of that means parents (like me!) are being called upon to send in more and more classroom supplies. But another thing most schools do is participate in the Box Tops for Education program. Right now, Walmart is partnering with the program to offer several products that have bonus Box Tops -- they have over 100 products that allow you to earn 4 Box Tops with your purchase. That means more money for your school!

Not familiar with the Box Tops for Education program? You can learn more about it HERE

I was invited to learn more about this program by shopping for some extra Box Top products at Walmart. I was sent a $25 gift card and stocked up on Honey Nut Cheerios and Old El Paso taco shells -- both gave me 4 Box Tops for my school! In addition, I visited the Earn More For My School site where I was able to sign up and earn even more extra Box Tops!

I'm turning into a Box Tops addict!

Do you save Box Tops for your school? Would you like to win a $25 Walmart gift card so you can go Box Tops crazy and earn even more?

Enter my giveaway!

Make money shopping online

If you shop online and you haven't yet signed up for eBates, you really should! eBates is a program that pays you for making online purchases. Depending on the store, you can earn anywhere from 2% to 20% of your total order back.

Right now, for example, if you place an Amazon order through eBates, you'll get 3% back. J.Crew is 6%, Target is 4%, and Road Runner Sports is 8%. Those are only a small sample of the stores available on eBates.

It is easy to sign up and easy to shop through the site.

I've been shopping through eBates for a while now and it is great to open my mailbox and find a check inside -- no strings attached.

So, if you shop online a lot, do check out eBates!

Whole Grain First cereal giveaway!

Ah, cereal. I've written about it before and I'll write about it again. We just eat that much of it around here.

Since we eat so much, I try my hardest to make sure I'm filling the pantry with healthy options. The kids eat a wide variety of cereal, fortunately, ranging from oatmeal to organic flax flakes to (gulp) some options that are probably a bit too sugary.

Like I said, though, I try to keep the available options as healthy as possible, while still being appealing to the little ones. It just doesn't make sense for me to buy cereals that are good for my kids but that they won't eat!

Some of the cereals that we enjoy almost daily include the General Mills cereals that boast "more whole grains than any other ingredient."

The kids chow down on Cheerios and, yeah, they looooove Cinnamon Toast Crunch. For us, cereal isn't just a breakfast food. We take it with us as a snack when we're out and about. So, I like that the cereals all have whole grains. I was sent 5 boxes of the cereal to try out and review and, of course, the kids loved them all. Well, my husband ate the Total -- the kids weren't all that into it. But, that's OK. They enjoyed the rest!

Here's some information about whole grains in cereal:

You can learn even more at the Whole Grain Nation Website.

Goal For It! (review)

If you have kids, you've probably had to deal with a tantrum or two, and you've probably done your fair share of asking -- repeatedly -- for something to be done. You know, it's the whole, "Time to get dressed!" "OK, you'd really better get dressed now." "It doesn't look to me like you're getting dressed, better hurry!" "If you don't get dressed right now . . . " that kind of thing.

(Please tell me I'm not the only one who goes through this with a 4 year old . . . )

Anyway, getting kids to do their chores or whatever it is you ask of them is capital-I Important and I know that. So, I work hard to be consistent and to get my little guy to listen and do as he's told. And that includes doing the little "chores" and "good behavior" things that my husband and I have decided he needs to do.

For the most part, my son is pretty good with it all. He asks to be excused when he's done with dinner, he clears his dishes. But, he's 4. So he has his moments.

So when I was invited to review the Goal For It Chore Chart I was interested to check it out.

I popped on to the Goal For It site and was able to create a chart very quickly and easily. There are many cute themes for the chart -- I went with baseball -- and several chores and behavior goals to choose from. For my son's chart, I chose:
  • ready for school on time
  • good manners at the table
  • help clear table
  • put clothes in hamper
  • go to bed on time
  • no tantrums
Each goal has a cute image with it to make it fun for kids.

I printed out the chart and put it on the fridge. My son and I talked about it and I told him how, at the end of every day, if he met a goal, we'd put a smiley face next to it.

You'd think I told him I'd buy him a puppy. The kid was that excited.

Having the goals on paper made him accountable. He wanted to earn his smiley face so he worked for it. One day, he started to have a tantrum over who-knows-what and I simply said, "Hey, that's a tantrum" and he stopped. Immediately. And then said, "I didn't really have a tantrum, Mommy. Can I still get a smiley face?"

Call me a wimpy mom, but I let him have the smiley face.

Here's how the week ended up (we forgot to start on Sunday):

Since he had rows of smiley faces, I let him put stickers on the chart. He loved it. Overall, the chart was a hit -- and a keeper! The site really is easy to use so if you are looking for a chore or behavior or some other goal chart for your kids, check it out!

Review disclosure: I was compensated for my review but the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
