Somnio follow up and giveaway.

Remember these bad boys?

If you don't, please refresh your memory: I wrote my review earlier this month here. Or, I guess I could just cut to the chase and tell you that I loved them. My Somnios. Oh, lovely, cushy, comfy Somnios.

I love them so much that I've left my beloved Brooks in the closet. And as weird as that feels after over 8 years with them, I couldn't be happier. With my new Somnios (the women's Self Control), my feet no longer hurt while running. This is huge, people. You see, I'm a runner with wonky feet. Well, wonky toes actually. Specifically, my big toes. For my troubles, I went to a Magic Foot Doctor last year who:
". . . examined my feet. 'You have bunions,' he said. I agreed. 'And it looks like you have only about 10 percent mobility in the right toe.' Hmm... 'And some bone spurs.' Double hmm... 'Maybe a little plantar fasciitis.' Triple hmm... 'And what we sometimes call a bunionette on the fifth metatarsal.' OK, really, this is enough . . ."
He recommended orthotics and surgery. I've had the orthotics for about a year and I've put off the surgery until who knows when. Alas, while the orthotics were great for a bit and have certainly helped to do away with any lingering hip/knee pain caused by my gimpy toes, they did nothing for my toes.

So, that's the background on my toes. They hurt when I run. Period.

Enter Somnio.

I was sent my custom pair for review. Ran in them. Liked them a lot. Wrote about them. Done.

Then I kept running in them and noticed that my toes weren't hurting during and after my runs. Unusual. Now, in case you were wondering, I do not wear my orthotics in my Somnios, so it isn't the combination of the shoes and the orthotics that are helping me out, it is only the shoes. Because I've seen such a remarkable change in how my feet feel while running, I've become a full-blown Somnio convert.

This is great for me and potentially great for you, too. Why? Well, Somnio has agreed to give one reader a chance to try out their running shoes as well. Yep, one of you will win your very own pair of custom running shoes from Somnio!

  20. I have the same feet!
I had the surgery....on the bunion and my bunionette. Left foot. and will do my right foot when my toddler is a little more self sufficient. Wow, I have never met anyone with the same foot problems. I have been running in the Kayanos, and it is not as uncomfortable as normal. Post surgery, I was running within the month. I might have to give this new show company a holler!! (and my dough!!!)
(preggo miles do not help with the bunions...mine ached more while preggo!!)

  45. I'm going to be honest. I have you on my blogroll but wasn't a follower. Thus I cannot enter this giveaway (sigh) but I am very interest in getting a pair of custom shoes from them for I have feet issues while running. Can't find a pair of shoes that fit well enough to not cause me blisters. I have even gone to running stores for fittings and the shoes they put me in still blister my feet. I think this may be my last option. I looked around their site and was unable to find anything about customs shoes. I hope to hear back from you.

  58. I've been dealing with plantar fasciitis for quite some time now. I went to a chiropractor who got rid of it for about a year, but it's back now that I'm back to running over 25 miles a week. I've bought more running shoes over the past 3 years than I care to mention. It would be nice to find one that works right out of the box AND two months down the road.

  91. My husband and I were what we called 'couch potatoes' just three months ago. We decided to participate in our first sprint triathlon on August 1st. Our goal was to finish and we did! Throughout the training, I wore a pair of $20 'value' tennis shoes. My knees hurt and my feet don't feel the best, but I love the feeling I get when I finish running...true accomplishment. My goal is to buy quality running shoes very soon because we would love to continue our running training. The opportunity to wear Somnio running shoes would be an awesome gift!
