A Year of Sport Travel review and giveaway

Cheese rolling.
Cow-chip throwing.
Wimbledon.
Empire State Building run up.

These are just a few of the sports included in Lonely Planet's book, A Year of Sport Travel. Organized by month and week, the book covers internationally renowned competitions alongside intriguing local passions to provide readers with an outline to get their sports fix while traveling the globe.

The book is full of interesting color photos of each event along with statistics and relevant information. There were many sports in this book that I had never heard of so I found the book interesting simply for the introduction to the various sports. I, unfortunately, don't do much traveling but I could see that a book like this would have a lot of appeal to someone who likes to see the world.

To buy:

A Year of Sport Travel is available for $16.99 on the Lonely Planet web site. You can also buy it and other Lonely Planet books at retailers like Amazon and your local book store.

To win:

Lonely Planet was kind enough to send me a copy of the book to share with one lucky reader. To enter, leave me a comment. That's it -- super easy!

  10. I've never been to this but a friend of mine keeps bugging me to go to the Okie Noodling contest, if you don't know what it is you should Google it. I probably should take advantage while I'm still living in Oklahoma because I'm pretty sure they don't do that anywhere else. LOL

  13. The coolest sporting even that I have been to is the Boston Marathon. My sister in law got to the finish line 8 hours before the finish, so that we could get a good spot! It was well worth it to see my husband cross the finish line! It was his first Boston, and he has done 4 more since!

  21. I worked about a quarter mile from the start and finish of the Kailua Kona Hawaii Ironman on the Big Island. I worked at a pizza/pasta joint and we served thousands of competitors the days before and after! It was super inspiring. SO much so that I ran and almost crawled through the Honolulu marathon 7 weeks later! There were 35 thousand people at the Marathon! Amazing fun!

  25. The coolest sporting event I've been to was the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta. I went with my parents and we left the little brother at home, so I was the only child for 2 weeks :) It was so cool to see all of the different sports and the atmosphere everywhere was awesome. I was hoping Chicago would win the bid, but hopefully some day I'll make it back...
